Gabrielle Ide Cinanni was a beautiful, vibrant girl who shared her wisdom by always living passionately despite the daily impact of congenital heart disease and pediatric stroke. She was only five years old when she passed away unexpectedly in her mother's arms due to the complications of CHD. Gabrielle's Ride will continue her legacy of passion and hope through our commitment to the children who share her challenges every day...
What is Gabrielle's Ride
Gabrielle's Ride is a charity cycle that was inspired by the life of Gabrielle Ide Cinanni and takes place annually in Halton.
Funds raised by this event are used to support the SickKids Foundation and are used for life saving research, the development of social programs, and the support of families affected by congenital heart disease and pediatric stroke.
Gabrielle's Ride will share her story of passion and hope through our commitment to the children who share her challenges every day. Congenital heart disease is the most common birth defect affecting one in 100 children. One in 1,500 newborn babies and one in 25,000 children will suffer a stroke. We are at the greatest risk of stroke during our first week after birth than at any other time in our life! When children are born with a heart defect (congenital heart disease) their risk of having a stroke is further increased. More children die every year from congenital heart disease than from all forms of childhood cancer combined and pediatric stroke is more common than pediatric brain tumours.
To date, Gabrielle's Ride has raised over $175,000 for SickKids Hospital and supported the World's First Cardio-Embolic Symposium as well as the World's First Cardio-Embolic Fellowship Program! Together we are improving the lives of children and families across Canada who face the challenges of heart disease and stroke.
Every year, Gabrielle's Ride will give all members of the community, from elite cyclists to families and children, the opportunity to ride in support of the thousands of children in Canada who live with the impact of congenital heart disease and pediatric stroke.
This year, Gabrielle's Ride will take place on Sunday, September 13th, 2015 as a partner with PwC's Epic Tour in Halton, Canada's largest GranFondo cycling event. We are thrilled about this new partnership because it allows us to take advantage of PwC's Epic Tour's size and scale to offer our supporters a great experience on the bike but also allow us to significantly decrease our expenditures and maximize fundraising for SickKids Hospital Foundation.
